Get Started

Hi There

Thanks for clicking. We’ve been helping people get started in this amazing city since 1984. We teach English, run training to learn new skills, provide legal advice and nursery care so people can work and contribute to life in this amazingly diverse city.
WE CALL THEM THE NEW LONDONERS.

Meet Beli

Beli Magar moved from Nepal to join her husband in the UK in 2005. Beli needed help learning English and finding work, so her adviser at Migrants Resource Centre (MRC) enrolled her on beginner English and IT classes and provided employment advice.

This gave Beli the confidence to apply for permanent jobs. Her approach paid off and now Beli is working as a housekeeper in London where she cleans the house, cooks for the family and looks after their children. Beli is thrilled with the position, and the sense of self-worth it’s given her.

More

The Migrants Resource Centre opens its doors everyday to people who need help getting started. The life stories that bring people here are diverse, sometimes harrowing and sometimes joyful, but all share a common purpose to make something of themselves and be a part of the best city in the world (ok, we’re a little biased).

How you can help
a new Londoner

1.

GET STARTED

Every person we meet wants to get on, add something and stand on their own two feet. They wouldn’t come to us if they didn’t.

£3 gets someone started. A listening ear is where it all starts, understanding each person’s situation, their needs, their skills, and what practical help might get them started.

Text GIVE £3 START to 70707 to donate £3 and we’ll help them on their way.

2.

BUDDY UP A NEW LONDONER

Getting settled and learning new skills takes time. So if you’re a proud Londoner why don’t you buddy up with a new Londoner and give your support for a whole year. We’ll send you updates through the year on who you’re helping – and you can choose the amount you donate each month.
